In brief (30 s)
  • Since 1 January 2016 (ANI), private-sector employers must offer collective supplementary health insurance and fund at least 50% of the contribution.
  • Alan focuses on 100% digital management; Malakoff Humanis and Harmonie Mutuelle on a solid network and track record.
  • Indicative market cost: ~€40 to €90 / month per employee for a standard compliant ("responsable") contract (before the employer's contribution of at least 50%).
  • ⚠️ This is not personalised advice — the right contract depends on your headcount and your collective bargaining agreement. Check the cover with the insurer.

Collective health insurance has been an obligation for every private-sector employer since the National Interprofessional Agreement (ANI of 11 January 2013) came into general effect on 1 January 2016: the company must offer a contract covering at least the legal “care basket” and fund at least half of it. Beyond this compliance, the choice comes down to the levels of cover, the quality of administration and the support. This comparison is an editorial ranking scored out of 100 using a grid that is the same for all insurers; it is not a substitute for a personalised assessment of your needs and your collective bargaining agreement.

Frequently asked questions

Is company health insurance mandatory?

Yes. Since the ANI came into general effect on 1 January 2016, every private-sector employer must offer collective supplementary health insurance covering at least the minimum care basket, and fund at least 50% of it. Failure to comply exposes the employer to a URSSAF reassessment. Some collective bargaining agreements require higher cover.

How much does company health insurance cost?

For a standard compliant contract, the market cost is generally around €40 to €90 per month per employee, of which the employer covers at least half. The exact price depends on the cover, the average age and the headcount: it is obtained on quote.

Can an employee refuse company health insurance?

In certain exemption cases provided for by law or the founding act (short fixed-term contracts, very part-time work, cover elsewhere as a dependant, etc.), the employee may be exempt from joining. Outside these cases, joining is mandatory.

What happens to cover after leaving?

The portability scheme allows, under conditions (termination giving entitlement to unemployment insurance), cover to be kept free of charge for a limited period. The terms should be checked with the insurer.
